WELCOME!
From the Editorial Director

i magazine is a worldview, a perspective.

The scope of issues covered are both local and global. i is affirmation of self - naming, empowering one's self. Towson University provides both the grounding and the point of departure for i magazine.

Birthing a magazine, minus the labor pains associated with ‘real’ childbirth, is nonetheless just as grueling but o………oh the rewards that come at the end...a brand-spanking new women’s magazine from the Women’s Center at Towson University. Committed to giving women a voice in how they are portrayed in the media, students and staff felt it important to craft a magazine that would ‘accentuate the positive’ – identity, images, independence, inspiration, ideas, imagination, innovation, ingenuity, information, initiative, intelligence, illumination – all the things so central to what women represent.

Next, we had to come up with a tag line. After going around and around, the tag line was staring us right in the face. What else but, for women who think outside the box. And, of course, could there be any better name than i magazine. The only thing left was the grunt work. The buzz about the magazine has brought in a new and expanded volunteer group of students, both female and male, and talents so diverse that one need only identify the area and up pops the person to handle it.

In the midst of a year of national tragedy and daily challenges to the safety and well-being of everyday citizens, it is refreshing to turn one’s attention to those issues and activities that assure life’s continuation. Students are finding hidden talents and are sailing in various capacities as part of the editorial and creative staff.

At the Women’s Center, one of the interns, Yuko Kume, is Japanese. She has helped us understand more fully the meaning of the Japanese word, GAMBARU – keep on pushing, move forward, never give up !!!

Welcome to i magazine, for women (and men) who think outside the box…
