About the Station--General
Information
WMJF-LP is low powered terrestrial
television station broadcasting on channel 16 UHF
in the Baltimore,
Maryland area. Although it bears the legal -LP suffix in its call
letters, it is a Class A television station, a slight upgrade from low-power
status. The station is owned and operated by Towson
University.
In the mid-1990s the station served as the local affiliate
for The WB,
prior to its move to its current affiliate WNUV.
After a brief stint as an America
One affiliate, WMJF flipped to MTV2
in 2004.
WMJF-produced programming is generally seen weekday
evenings from 5PM to 6PM, and nights from 9PM to 12 Midnight.
Syndicated shows are seen weekdays from 5PM to 7:30PM, with the actual times
pending on student-produced programs scheduled; syndicated programming includes
a National
Lampoon hour block of programming three times a week, and federally-mandated
Educational / Informational (E/I) programming for children. All other times are
filled with MTV2 programming, especially on weekends and student holidays.
While we have two faculty
advisors (Dr. John MacKerron and Dr. David Reiss), this station is mainly run by
the students with our advisors only stepping in when necessary. Students write,
produce, star, shoot, edit, direct, and air all of our television shows. We also
have an executive board which handles all the day to day business that goes into
running a station. Anyone is allowed to have their own television show about
almost any topic they want to make a show about. Even you don't want to create
your own show, we have a wide variety of television shows
that are already in production
WMJF is one of at least two student-run television
stations in the nation that is licensed by the FCC
(K09VR in Austin,
Texas is the other).
