Towson University Grant Opportunity for
Professional Development school Teachers
|
![]() |
Since
September 1999, the College of Education has been working to enhance the use of
technology in teaching through teacher professional development with technology mentor
program. The primary goal of this grant program – Preparing Tomorrow’s
Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) - is to help PDS teachers expand
their technology skills for use in teaching and modeling this technology
integration for pre-service teachers (i.e. student interns) as well as their
peers.
Using
this modeling approach, pre-service teachers will develop a stronger background
in technology integration to draw upon as they move into the classroom.
We believe that technology, used wisely in instruction, can improve
student learning and higher-level thinking.
Working with their technology mentor, PDS teachers (i.e. protégés)
will enhance their knowledge of technology integration and demonstrate this use
to pre-service teachers.
This
grant program will run from November 2003 - May 2004. During the fall and winter of 2003-04, PDS teachers will work
with their technology mentor to gain greater expertise in the use of technology
both personally and in their teaching. In the spring of 2004, protégés will
continue working with mentors as they integrate technology in their classes.
Incentives
To
reward participants of this program we are able to offer the following
incentives:
A stipend of $1000 for each teacher protégé for work throughout the year on integrating technology within their teaching and the completion of all program requirements.
A stipend of $1000 for each mentor to work with a
teacher protégé throughout the year and completion of all program
requirements.
Grant Requirements

In case you are wondering what type of technology we are anticipating that teachers will integrate in their teaching, here are some brief examples of elements that could be included in your proposal. For more ideas, go to the MM-TIP website: http://wwwnew.towson.edu/tip/projects.htm
