THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THEATRE ARTS MAJORS FOR 2008-2009
The Theatre Arts Department has available a limited number of scholarships for continuing students; some are for a single year, some are renewable. The following summary is preliminary:
Askew Scholarship Endowment
Charles S. Dutton Theatre Scholarship Endowment
Gillespie/Loeschke Scholarship Endowment
John Glover Scholarship Endowment for Acting Majors
Nina E. Hughes Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Christopher David Legg Memorial Scholarship
Steve Yeager Scholarship Endowment
Theatre Department Scholarship Endowment
The exact amount of these awards is determined yearly, though the range is broad: from $200 to $3,000. In addition, the Theatre Arts Endowment is used to make several smaller awards. In the past, the department has also been privileged to designate a Liberace Scholar with the generous support of the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit rather than of financial need. Awards are for the academic year beginning in August 2008. The money is credited to the student's expenses by semester and the recipient must meet all eligibility requirements each semester.
To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a theatre major
2. Be matriculated at TU as a degree candidate when the application is made
3. Be a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours)
4. Have contributed significantly to the artistic efforts of the Department of Theatre Arts
To apply for a scholarship, each student must:
1. Complete a scholarship application form. Forms are available online.
2. Access your unofficial transcript through Online Services. Paste the text of your transcript into a word processing document.
3. Electronically submit the form along with the transcript by March 14, 2008.
Submission procedures:
To submit an application online, download the form. You can then open the form with your word processing program. Type in your information, save the file as your name.rtf (for example Jay Herzog's file would be titled "herzog.rtf") and attach it to an email to theatrescholarship@towson.edu. Transcripts may be obtained through Online Services. Simply copy the text of your transcript, paste the transcript inside a word processing document, save as an .rtf file and mail to theatrescholarship@towson.edu. You will receive a confirmation email when your application is received. If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact Robyn Quick to verify that your application was received.
Notification of awards will be made at the Senior Ceremony in May. All applicants are strongly encouraged to attend Senior Ceremony so that those who are awarded scholarships may accept them in person.
