Peter Wray

Peter is an assistant professor of theatre, professional actor and director. He received his MFA in directing from Penn State in 1999, after having worked professionally for fifteen years as a director, actor, stage manager, and teacher. Born and raised in Wilmington , Delaware , he attended the University of Delaware where he studied communications. He received his BFA in acting/directing from the University of New Mexico in 1982, graduating magna cum laude with distinction .

Peter was resident director with Gretna Theatre, artistic associate and director with Foundation Theatre, assistant to the producing director at The People's Light and Theatre Company, and literary reader for Actors Theatre of Louisville. He co-founded Mum Puppettheatre (creating non textual performance pieces with music), The MUM Company (a street theatre group in the medieval tradition), and Harrington Theatre Arts Company (a student run company at the University of Delaware ).

A member of Actors' Equity Association, Peter has worked onstage with Wilma Theater , Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia Festival Theatre for New Plays, The People's Light and Theatre Company, Gretna Theatre, and Foundation Theatre. Since moving to the Baltimore area, Peter has worked with Rep Stage, The Bay Theatre Company and Maryland Institute College of Art.

As a teacher, Peter was an instructor with Penn State 's School of Theatre, the Performing Arts School of Philadelphia, Walnut Street Theatre School , and Open Stage of Harrisburg. He helped establish and co-directed the education program at Gretna Theatre in Pennsylvania and was an adjunct professor of theatre with Burlington College in New Jersey .

An ultramarathon runner with the NCR Trail Snails, Peter is married to Robin Wray, an associate director for annual giving at Johns Hopkins University , arts consultant, and writer. Their son, Kyle, is a student at Penn State.
