The Center for Instructional Advancement and Technology has five digital still cameras and four digital video cameras available for loan to Towson University faculty. According to Amy Betten, CIAT multimedia services lead, faculty use the cameras in a variety of interesting and innovative ways. "At the beginning of the semester, many faculty like to check out digital cameras to take photos of each of their students and create printouts that allow them to more quickly associate a student with his name," she says. "Also, faculty check out the digital video cameras to do anything from record interviews with people who are authorities in certain information to share with their students, to recording class lectures and putting them online in Blackboard for students to review at a later date." If you have never used a digital camera or camcorder before, or just need a refresher, a CIAT staff member can help. "We typically receommend that faculty allow about a half hour to pick up a camera for the first time, so a member of CIAT can walk them through how to use the camera and answer any questions they have," Betten says. Reserving a camera or camcorder is easy! Either call CIAT at 410-704-3546, or fill out the reservation form at http://fusion.towson.edu/www/ciat/cameras/.
