Who's Who at OTS
March 03, 2006
Want the inside perspective from OTS? It's all here in the Who's Who feature. Meet Matthew Wynd Assistant Director of Information Technology Support Centers Matthew received his bachelor's degree in advertising photography from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and continued his education in RIT's graduate program studying interactive multimedia and Web development. He joined Towson University in 1997 heading up the Center for Instructional Advancement and Technology's (CIAT) multimedia services department, where he assisted TU faculty in creating course materials for classroom and Web delivery. Since OTS' reorganization in spring 2004, Matthew has served as the assistant director for information technology support centers. He is responsible for OTS Training, Student Computing Services (SCS) and CIAT. How do OTS Training, SCS and CIAT fit into the university's mission? They all provide an environment where faculty, staff and students can become more competent in the use of technology. We provide opportunities for the campus community to work with specialists on the appropriate application of technology--whether it's teaching, learning or conducting business. Our team continually researches emerging technologies in order to provide our clients with knowledge compatible with the needs of today's and tomorrow's workforce. What words of advice would you give a faculty member who has never used CIAT's services before? If you have a great idea for using technology in your teaching but you don't know how to get the project off the ground, CIAT is an excellent resource. Within fifty feet of our faculty lab are staff members who specialize in instructional design, online course development, emerging technologies, graphic design, Web development, video production, online Web application development and many other fields. Our clients range from technology neophytes to computer science faculty. This department was created and developed specifically to assist faculty. Please come discover how CIAT can help you. Student Computing Services has temporarily moved to the Enrollment Services building for spring semester 2006. Has the move affected day-to-day operations? This temporary relocation was a necessary byproduct of an HVAC renovation on the first floor of Cook Library. For customers who reach us by phone or e-mail there is no noticeable difference to SCS services. Students who are looking for our walk-up service, our Learning Center lab or our open PC lab can find these services on the first floor of Enrollment Services. All of SCS' services are available during our same 89 hours of operation per week. We regret the inconvenience this change in location is causing some of our clients, but we hope that when students need SCS' services they will know where to find us. What projects are you working on right now? The Towson University Web site renovation has in many ways just started. We are working on plans for a MyTU portal, site content management and a better solution for Web analytics. Now that SCS services are running in their temporary location it is time to start planning how the department's space will be configured when SCS returns to Cook Library. In addition, CIAT, SCS and OTS Training are working on plans to provide high quality support during Towson University's aggressive growth over the next decade. When I'm not working, you will find me . . . With my wife Lauren and my children Alice, Jack and Alexander. During our free time we like to take in a movie, garden or visit the local library (We can't all be rock climbing, hang gliding, bungee jumpers!).
