Clean
Cars Act
On
February 15th, senate overwhelmingly voted for the Clean Cars Act
to go into efect in Maryland.
The
bill is a state-based policy that addresses global warming pollution,
as well as pollution that causes cancer, smog, and the dead zone
in the Chesapeake Bay. The act strengthens the standards for emissions
that form smog and other health-damaging pollution, adds carbon
dioxide to the list of pollutants that are covered by the vehicle
emission standards, and requires a percentage of new cars that are
sold each year to be advanced technology vehicles such as hyrbids.

Eleven
other states have already adapted the Clean Cars Program.
