The University of Leeds

The University of Leeds is acclaimed world-wide for the quality of its teaching and research. One of the largest universities in the UK with more than 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students, Leeds is now among the top ten universities for research in the UK and is internationally acknowledged as a centre of excellence in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines.

Located in the center of England, Leeds is well-known as a student city and one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. Readers of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine voted Leeds the number one city in the UK in 2003, above more well known locations including London and Edinburgh. Located in the district of Yorkshire, Leeds is close to the ancient city of York with historical attractions such as Viking and Roman heritage, the Minster, Shambles and museums.

Leeds is a dynamic city with numerous top nightclubs, live music venues, world class sport, cinema, theatre and a wide range of other leisure activities available to the study abroad student.

Subjects Available: Students can choose classes from the full curriculum at Leeds and can take up to 60 UK credits per semester (equivalent to 15 US credits). Recommended subjects include History, Political Science, International Studies, Geography, Earth and Environmental Science, Asian Studies, Development Studies, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Sport and Exercise Science, Fine Arts, and Graphic Design.

Housing Options: Students can choose from university accommodation in catered Halls of Residence, and self-catered houses and flats. The majority of the halls, houses and flats are either on the campus or close to it.

Dates:
Fall: Mid-September - December
Spring: Late January - June
Academic Year: September - May

Costs (per semester):* $9,400 includes tuition, fees, and health insurance. Students will be billed by Towson University. Additional costs include housing and meals, transportation, $300 study abroad fee, and personal expenses. Students pay the host institution directly for housing.

A $500 cancellation charge will be incurred after December 1 for the spring semester and May 12 for the fall semester. Additional penalties may be incurred after any deposits have been paid on the student's behalf in the UK.

*The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Application Process: Student must be a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking student with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and have completed at least 30 credits to apply.

To apply, submit the TU UK-Direct Program Application (PDF) to the TU Study Abroad Office. Non-TU students must also submit a completed Non-Degree Enrollment Application (PDF) .
