Study Abroad

The University of Dundee

Click here to apply for the TU Caledonian Study Abroad Scholarship for study at the University of Dundee though the TU UK-Direct program. This scholarship is available for Fall 2008.

The University of Dundee was founded in 1881 and is a traditional Scottish university with excellent standards of teaching. The University has nearly 12,500 students with approximately 15% from over 80 different countries worldwide - and is know as Scotland's student city. Two thirds of the student population are Scottish, making the study abroad experience a real blend of the local and the international. It has been voted the friendliest campus in Scotland. The university campus is located in the heart of the city of Dundee. The traditional four-year Scottish degree structure offers more flexibility in choosing classes than at universities in the rest of the UK.

Dundee:
Dundee is one of the four major cities of Scotland and is known as the City of Discovery, after Scott of the Antarctic's exploration ship, which was built in the city and today is a major tourist attraction. The city is set on the east coast of Scotland, with the Highlands to the north and St Andrews and Edinburgh to the south. Dundee has been reported as having more hours of sunshine, the purest air quality and more green spaces than any other Scottish city.

With a population of around 150,000, it is large enough to support the range of cultural, sporting and recreational activities expected of a major city, but small enough not to be overwhelming or impersonal for those coming to study. Dundee has the nicest climate of all of Scotland's cities, with more sunshine and lower rainfall. Its coastal location means that it avoids extreme winter temperatures.

The city is a friendly and lively place with more students per head of population than any other in the UK. Entertainment focuses on the tastes and budgets of students with a variety of restaurants, cafes, cinemas, theatres, nightclubs and bars, plus excellent sports facilities.

Many major historic sites, mountains, lochs and castles can be found less than an hour's journey from the city. The closest ski resort is only an hour away. The other major cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen are all less than 90 minutes' journey by train, bus or car.
