Panama: Business and Culture at the Crossroads of the Americas

Study business and Panamanian culture in this tropical country in the heart of the Americas. Panama City is one of the most cosmopolitan and modern cities in Latin America offering a safe and friendly environment for your study abroad experience. Program highlights include a tour of the Panama Canal and Amador Causeway, a 2-day stay at Decameron beach resort, a day-trip to Isla Grande, a tour of an Embera Indian Village, and a visit to Casco Antiguo..

Trade with Latin America has become routine in the global marketplace and business students with knowledge of Latin American culture are now sought after by major U.S. corporations. Students will take Principles of e-Business or Organizational Behavior and a course in Panamanian culture. The program includes visits to local and multi-national companies.

Participants will stay in the Hotel Las Vegas in Panama City in shared suites with kitchen facilities.

Instructors: Dr. John Michel (MNGT 421) / Dr. Xiaolin Li (EBTM 311)

Course: EBTM 311 Principles of e-Business (3 credits) or MNGT 421 Organizational Behavior (3 credits) and LAST 484/MNGT 494 Panamanian Culture (3 credits).

TU students may receive Honors credit for their study abroad experience.

Costs: *$3,200 includes academic credit, housing, health insurance, welcome and farewell dinners, local cell phone, and excursions. Additional costs include $150 study abroad fee, international airfare (approx. $700), $30 tourist card upon arrival, required texbook (approx. $100), any meals not included, and personal expenses. Note: International airfare is not included in the program cost.

*The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Eligibility: Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5, a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and be at least 18 years old. General prerequisites: Business majors only. Junior/senior standing. EBTM 311 prerequisites: EBTM/MNGT 337 or equivalent, students may not have already taken EBUS/ECOM/MNGT 311. MNGT 421 prerequisites: MNGT 361.

Application Process: Fill out the application and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $250 deposit is required at time of application. Non-TU students must also submit a completed Non-Degree Enrollment Application.

Application Deadline: APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED - Friday, October 28, 2011. Admission is on a rolling basis. Early application is advised as space is limited.
