TU Newcastle University International Summer School, UK

July 20 - August 9, 2009

Study at the International Summer School at Newcastle University in the North of England in 2009. The city of Newcastle was voted Britain’s friendliest city in 2005 and ranked as one of the world’ s top eight cities to visit. Recently, The Rough Guide listed Newcastle's Nightlife as the #1 UK attraction.

All courses offered include field trips such as ‘Indiana Jones style’ archaeological digs or visiting Alnwick Castle, the location of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies. The program also includes a range of social activities and excursions to Edinburgh, the ancient city of York, and the Lake District – one of the most spectacular national parks in the UK.

Internship Option: Students enrolling in the summer school may also complete a 7-week internship (additional 5 credits) before the classes begin (June 1 - August 9, 2009).

During the internship, students will be required to submit a weekly journal which is a reflection about the internship and complete a final report (around 3-5 pages in length) as an evaluation of the placement. Host companies will also provide formal feedback on your progress at a mid-point and end of the internship. Formal references are available from host companies on request.

Housing: Students will live in university self-catered flats. Each flat typically has six single occupancy bedrooms sharing a communal lounge/kitchen and shower/toilet. Kitchens are equipped with utensils for cooking and eating and bedding is also provided. Laundry facilities are available on-site.

Costs:*

Summer School only (3 credits): Approx. $3,050 includes tuition (3 credits), accommodation, health insurance, social program activities, and social programme. Additional costs include $100 TU Study Abroad Fee, airfare, school supplies, personal spending money, and meals.

Doing Business in Europe course option (3 credits): Approx. $3,350 includes tuition (3 credits), accommodation, health insurance, social program activities, and social programme. Additional costs include $150 TU Study Abroad Fee, airfare, school supplies, personal spending money, and meals.

Summer School plus internship: Approx. $5,300 includes tuition (8 credits), accommodation, health insurance, social program activities, social programme, and internship placement. Additional costs include $150 TU Study Abroad Fee, airfare, school supplies, personal spending money, and meals.

*The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Application Process: Fill out the TU Newcastle University International Summer School Application Form (PDF) and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $250 deposit required at time of application. Non-TU students must also submit a completed Non-Degree Enrollment Application (PDF) .
