TU Study Abroad Exchange Program in Japan

Kansai Gaidai University, Hirakata City, Japan

The Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai University is designed specifically for international students wishing to pursue Japanese Language and Japanese/Asian Studies. The university is currently affiliated with 280 institutions in 50 countries around the world with approximately 600 students participating in the Asian Studies Program each year. There are lots of opportunities to interact with the local students including on-campus activities and the 'Speaking Partner Program'.

Located in Hirakata City, Kansai Gaidai University is within a one-hour train ride of Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka - the second largest business hub in Japan. Hirikata is home to approximately 400,000 residents including 16,000 students attending the six universities located in the city.

Subjects offered in English: Japanese Language, History, Business, Religion, Sociology, Literature, Art. Click here for a list of available courses.

Language of Instruction: English (except for Japanese language courses).

Program Dates:
Fall: Late August to mid December
Spring: Late January to late May
Academic Year: late August to late May

Housing Options: International dormitory or home stay.

Cost: TU Tuition and fees. Additional costs include transportation, meals, housing, visa/passport fees, health insurance, $300 study abroad fee, personal expenses, $150 health insurance fee.

Application Process: Must be a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking student at TU. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Junior/Senior status;. Completed one year of college level Japanese with a "B" average.

Submit an TU Study Abroad Exchange Application Form to the TU Study Abroad Office. $100 exchange application fee.

Application Deadlines:
Fall/Academic Year: February 1
Spring: September 15

The Kansai Gaidai Exchange Program is highly competitive. Space is limited and fills very quickly therefore the application deadlines for this exchange are earlier than most.
