Study Abroad

Art History in Florence

May 30 - June 21, 2008

Study steps away from Michelangelo’s Medici Chapel and the Uffizi Gallery in the heart of Florence while tracing the history of Italian art and architecture. Students will become familiar with the majors works of Florentine painting, sculpture and architecture from the late Middle Ages through the Renaissance period. The program includes visits to Cinque Terre, San Gimignano, Siena, Fiesole, and the breathtaking Tuscan hills. Housing is in self-catering apartments with students sharing rooms with one or more classmates. The apartments are located within the historic centre of the city.

Course: ARTH 494/500: Italian Renaissance Art and Architecture (3 credits).

The course is open to all interested parties but must be taken for credit. Attendance at all lectures and site visits is mandatory. Students will be graded on the quality of their participation on site, an oral presentation, a travel journal, and a final examination.

Cost:* $4,700 includes tuition (3 credits), health insurance, housing, roundtrip airfare, transportation between program sites, excursions, and a farewell dinner. Additional costs include $150 study abroad fee, meals, personal spending money for shopping and any excursions they undertake during free time.

*The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

Application Deadline: MARCH 15, 2008. Admission is on a rolling basis. Early application is advised as space is limited.

Application Process : Fill out an application (PDF) and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $250 deposit required at time of application.

Non-TU undergraduate students must also submit a completed Non-Degree Enrollment Application (PDF). Non-TU graduate students must also submit an Application for Graduate School (PDF).
