International Business in Chile
(taught in English)
CANCELED
June 4 - 22, 2008
Spend 17 days studying International Business in Chile in Summer 2008. Trade with Latin America has become routine in the global marketplace and business students with knowledge of Latin American culture are now sought after by major U.S. corporations. Students will take an International Business course (MNGT 375) plus an introductory course in Latin American culture. The course features visits to local companies and industries.
The program is based in the coastal cities of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar - 'Chile's Cultural Capital'. Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways, embodying a rich architectural and cultural legacy. It is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often considered to be one of Latin America’s most intriguing urban areas. Valparaiso functions as the primary commercial harbor, naval base, and seat of political power for the country, which creates a unique and modern dynamic in a city with its roots in the colonial past.
Neighboring Viña del Mar (commonly called just Viña) is a popular tourist destination with one of the most visited beaches in Latin America. Viña has become Chile's premier seaside resort often referred to as Chile's Riviera. Once home to the famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, the Valparaiso/Vina del Mar area offers something for each visitor including spectacular beaches, museums, and architecture.
Students will also spend time in the capital city of Santiago - one of Latin America's most sophisticated metropolitan areas. Santiago is headquarters to many important companies and is a regionally important financial center. The program also includes a weekend trip to La Serena - one of Chile's top beach resorts and the second oldest city in the country.
