Teaching English Language Learners, Argentina

Earn credit studying in Argentina in Minimester 2012 with Towson University. This program will introduce students to the theory of English language literacy and provide information on how to work with English language learners. Participants will have the opportunity to observe students learning a second language first-hand. The program also includes a visit to the El Ateneo bookstore, a cooking class, and a tango show.
The program is based in Buenos Aires - the third largest city in South America and home to nearly nine million people. Buenos Aires is a 24 hour city with something for everyone - art galleries, theaters, museums, restaurants, and a continuous agenda of cultural attractions and events.
Housing: Participants will stay in a hotel sharing rooms with one or more classmates.
Program Director: Dr. Gilda Martinez - Towson University Dept. of Educational Technology and Literacy.
Course: REED 351 or EDUC 651: Teaching English Language Learners (3 credits).
TU students may receive Honors credit for their study abroad experience.
Cost: *Approx. $3,600 includes academic credit, housing,
three meals a day (Monday – Friday), health insurance, excursions, and welcome and farewell dinners. Additional costs include $150 study abroad fee, international airfare (approx. $1,650), any meals not included, entry fee into Argentina (approx. $140), and personal expenses. Note: International airfare is not included in the program cost.
*The Towson University Study Abroad Office reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.
Eligibility: Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5, a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and be at least 18 years old.
Application Process: Fill out the application and submit it to the TU Study Abroad Office. $250 deposit is required at time of application. Non-TU students must also submit a completed Non-Degree Enrollment Application. Non-TU graduate students must also submit an Application for Graduate School.
Application Deadline: OCTOBER 15, 2011. Admission is on a rolling basis. Early application is advised as space is limited.
