Noted for its architecture and amazing revival after the devastation of the second world war, Dresden is now experiencing a cultural rebirth and return to its roots as a center of innovation and originality. The United Nation's cultural organization UNESCO declared Dresden and the surrounding Elbe Valley to be a "World Heritage" site. Today, the 800 year old city is home to many educational institutions, major centers of research, and cultural societies and museums, yet maintains extensive green areas within the city limits.
