TU in France - Le Centre d'Aix (courses taught in English and French)
Located in the university town of Aix-en-Provence, Le Centre d'Aix is designed for liberal arts majors with beginning to advanced French language skills.
Aix-en-Provence: Voted by the French as "the most desirable French town in which to live," Aix-en-Provence is referred to as the 'city of a thousand fountains' characterized by cobblestone streets and beautiful old buildings. The city is located just 15 miles north of Marseille in the Provence region of France and has inspired many great writers and painters including Paul Cézanne. Though small, Aix is a bustling town rich in history and local tradition yet equipped with all the modern facilities of a larger city.
Academic Information: AACSB accredited. 15 U.S. credits (five courses) per semester / 3-9 U.S. credits (one to three courses) per summer. See below for summer options:
Summer Option I: 3 U.S credits (one intensive French language course / 3 weeks)
Summer Option II: 6 U.S. credits (two courses / 6 weeks)
Summer Option III:
9 U.S. credits (two courses plus one intensive French language course* or fine arts course* / 6 weeks)
* Taught over a three week period during the regular summer program.
TU students may receive Honors College credit for their study abroad experience.
Students with advanced French language skills may take all
of their courses in French. Students without prior background
are typically required to take at least two introductory
courses per semester in French language in addition to their
courses conducted in English. The program also
offers a language partners scheme which provides the basis
for an exchange of English and French between IAU students
and French students.
Qualified students may take one or two courses at the local
French university. In order to enroll at the Faculté des
Lettres, Université de Provence—Aix-Marseille I,
the student must be attending the Institute for American
Universities for the entire academic year or for the spring
semester, and must respect the French university academic
calendar. Final exams are given in late January and in late
May. This opportunity is made possible on the basis of 50-50
cost-sharing between IAU and the student for the additional
tuition fees charged by the French university. Please note
this in your application if you are interested in this option.
