COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Towson University Office of Student Activities coordinates community service and volunteer activities for students, faculty and staff. We also serve as a resource for community partners seeking TU volunteers.

Why Do Community Service?

A lot of students find themselves short on time because of classes, jobs, involvement in student organizations, and/or trying to have a social life.  So, why should you volunteer some of your precious time to others in need?  Here are the top ten reasons why YOU should volunteer and participate.

  1. Opportunity to make a difference in an area you care about.
  2. Meet great new people who are interested in the same areas you are.
  3. The chance to use your gifts and talents in new and interesting ways.
  4. Chance to improve the quality of life of those around you.
  5. Help you decide on a career path.
  6. Easy way to get valid experience in your future field of work.
  7. Volunteering looks excellent on your resume .
  8. Makes you eligible for some scholarships including the “TRL Choose or Lose Scholarship” sponsored by MTV.
  9. Help you develop new insights about yourself and better understand some of the attitudes you hold about life
  10. Volunteering gives you a feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment knowing that you made a different in someone's life that may last for an hour, a day, or maybe even a lifetime.
