Makeup artists will get hired for two skills, straight makeup, and special effects. Below Instructors Steve Bauer and Marianne Wittelsberger demonstrate everything from cuts, bruises, burns, impalements, tattoos, piercings, blisters, road rash, and avulsed ( skinned ) arm, and what happens when someone 'answers the iron.'

The basic principle we learned at UCLA film school is that conflict is interesting, and when conflict happens, so do special effects for the makeup artist. Watch any movie, from Die Hard with Bruce Willis, many makeup effects to Fight Club, and almost every movie.

Passion of the Chirst is the biggest makeup efx movie we discussed. ( KP )
