In order to help the nose putty adhere to the skin, first coat the nose with spirit gum, using the brush that is in the bottle.

Tap the spirit gum with your finger until it becomes sticky. While it is still tacky, but before it dries, add a small amount of cotton to the surface. This gives the nose putty a fiber to adhere to. It is important not to add too much cotton as this will keep the nose putty from properly adhering to the skin. 

Use a clay modeling tool, orange stick or even a pop sickle stick to remove some nose putty from the container.

There are three types of putty:

1. Nose Putty - is very hard, but is good at keeping shape.
2. Derma Wax or Mortician's Wax - is very soft and can distort easily.
3. Nose & Scar Wax (like Ben Nye's) - is a combination of nose putty & derma wax, so it is a medium softness and easier to work with.
