Master Teachers
Our master teachers are superb professional theatre artists and educators. They are full of knowledge, experience and fun. They're what make this program so special.

Counselors
Our counselors are top-flight theatre arts students or graduates of Towson University’s Theatre programs. They are responsible, energetic, and experienced with children and the arts.

Program Directors

Tom Casciero, is the Founder and Program Director of the Silver Penny Summer Program. He has trained actors worldwide in physical theatre and voice/movement integration. He has also performed his zany solo show of mime/comedy nationally and internationally and for Young Audiences of Maryland and the Maryland State Arts Council. He is a Ph.D. and an Associate Professor at Towson University.

Mathew Bowerman is the Artistic Director and Onesite director this year. He teaches at the Carver Center for the Arts and is an adjunct theatre instructor at Notre Dame College. He recently added three more professionally appearances to the over 100 shows he has done in the U.S., including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional theatre. Matt is currently a Ph.D. candidate who holds a Masters Degree in Theatre Education and a BA in Theatre fromTowson University.

Master Teachers

Matt Bowerman is teaching at the Carver Center for the Arts and is an adjunct theatre instructor at Notre Dame College. He recently added three more professionally appearances to the over 100 shows he has done in the U.S., including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional theatre. Matt is currently a Ph.D. candidate who holds a Masters Degree in Theatre Education and a BA in Theatre fromTowson University.

Temple Crocker is a graduate of the MFA Theatre Program at Towson University. She is a writer, director, actor and theatre auteur. She is the co-founder of a theater company in San Francisco and was recently working in New York with world renowned experimental theatre artist Richard Foreman. She is currently teaching at Villa Julie College and at Towson University, and appears locally in theatre, art installations, and multi-media projects.

Michael Todd is a total theatre person. He’s a producer, director, writer, singer, actor, designer of sound, video, and posters, a teacher to young people, and a great friend to people and animals. He moved to Baltimore from Oklahoma City, where he ran The Chocolate Factory Theatre Company, taught and directed full-time for Oklahoma City University’s School of Music Theatre & Opera, and worked as a professional actor. In New York, Michael was Assistant Director for Urinetown! The Musical and the Off-Broadway adaptation of Pirates of Penszance. He hopes your summer is a field of dreams.

Counselors

Delletta Gillispie is currently in her first year of the MFA Theatre Program at Towson University. She has extensive training in theatre and is a versatile singer/songwriter. She is a playwright, actor, and director. Deletta has extensive teaching experience in the U.S. and Bermuda, where she has made her home for 7 years. (Session 1)

Victoria Mansuri is trained as a Waldorf teacher and has most recently taught at the Baltimore Waldorf School in Coldspring. She was trained in music, theatre, and dance and has most recently returned to her interest in theatre. (Session 2)

Lexi Martinez is a senior in the Perfromance Track in Theatre Department at Towson University. She is trained in all aspects of the theatre and has extensive training in dance. She most recently appeared in Tony Kushner's Angels in America and in Postmarks, an original/divised theatre piece. (Session 1 & 2)

Valerie Westall Sales is a graduate of the Performance Track in the Theatre Department at Towson University. We are happy to see her return to work with us again in 2007. Val has recently appeared as Harper in Tony Kushner's Angels in America. She has taught children in a summer camp in Annapolis for many years. (Session 1 & 2)

Session 1: "Out of this World"

Master Teachers

Matt Bowerman is teaching at the Carver Center for the Arts and is an adjunct theatre instructor at Notre Dame College. He recently added three more professionally appearances to the over 100 shows he has done in the U.S., including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional theatre. Matt is currently a Ph.D. candidate who holds a Masters Degree in Theatre Education and a BA in Theatre fromTowson University.

Temple Crocker is a recent graduate of the MFA Theatre Program at Towson University. She is the co-founder of a theater company in San Francisco and is currently working in New York with experimental theatre artist Richard Foreman.

The Jokesters, Steve Bauer and Marianne Wittelsberger, have been entertaining audiences all over the United States since 1983, including 8 Command Performances at the White House for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton and a Royal Command Performance for the King of Saudi Arabia. Their unique style of entertainment combines Comedy, Mime & Magic into a personalized performance. Whether it's a half-hour Stage Show or strolling entertainment the JOKESTERS are sure to bring a smile to everyone's face.

Michael Carothers is a senior in the Performance Track in the Theatre Department at Towson University. He has appeared in numerous roles at Towson, most recently in The Marriage of Bette and Bo and The Adding Machine. He is also a script writer/film maker with Carothers Brothers Films.

Barb Lanciers is a third year MFA candidate at Towson University. She is trained in acting, voice and movement. She has worked extensively with Anne Bogart and Viewpoints, serving as Anne's assistant for individual and SITI training programs. She recently returned from studies in Hungary.

Valerie Westall Sales is in the Performance Track in the Theatre Department at Towson University. She has recently appeared as Beatrice in The Changling. Val has been teaching children in a summer camp in Annapolis for several years.

Ian Belknapp
Ian Belknap is a director, actor, and teacher working professionally in Maryland at The Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, Center Stage, Rep Stage, Catalyst Theatre, and Free Space Theatre in which he is the Founding Co-Artistic Director. Last year Ian spent touring a two person Shakespeare Show to Maryland middle schools with the Young Audiences of Maryland and the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival. Ian is a proud graduate of Towson University. He is also our current Administrative Assistant.

Liz Hammil is a Theatre Major and Spanish Minor at Towson University. She has danced for 12 years, acted for 7, and sung for 4. With performance as her passion, Liz hopes to pursue a career on the stage.She is currently on the Towson University Pom Squad, has taught kindergardeners Spanish, and recently studied in Betanzos, Spain.

Melissa Shatto is a painter and mixed media artist. She has taught classes for adults and children for Harford Community College, including the Discover College and Summer Academy summer programs for kids and young adults. Her work has been exhibited regionally and she is the founder of the Wilson Shatto Institute for the Arts.

Jessica Barberry has a Theatre degree from Muhlenberg College and has performed principle roles in dozens of theatre productions. She is currently a special education teacher training special needs individuals in life skills and learning.

Kate Briante will teach for Session I and Session II in Towson. She currently teaches at the Carver Center for the Arts and is a private voice instructor at the Olfield School and at Towson University. Her extensive musical theatre background of over twenty roles includes off-Broadway productions of Company and The Vagabond Kings. She has also appeared in theatre, film and television. Most recently Kate performed in in The Gift of the Magi in Providence, Rhode Island and in The Sound of Music at the New Bedford Festival Theatre. Kate has a MFA in Theatre Performance from Rutgers University and a BA in Theatre from University of Tennessee.

Marge Phillips will join us again this year to teach in Session III in Forest Hill. She currently teaches theatre and musical theatre at North Harford Middle School, where she has created a succesful theatre and musical theatre program in just one year. Prior to that she taught at Edgewood Middle School for many years and for the Maryland State Theatre Arts Summer Program. She has directed scores of musicals and plays for young people in an educational career that spans 20 years.

He is the co- producer of Open Space, a rehearsal/performance venue for students. Ian is also the recipient of the prestigious John Glover Scholarship. All Theatre Sessions.

Temple Crocker is a third year MFA candidate at Towson University. She hails from San Francisco, where she ran her own experimental theatre collective and creatied original performance works. She is a designer as well as a performer. Temple is the recipient of a Graduate Fellowship Scholarship that will allow her to work with Robert Wilson, the guru of experimental theatre, in NYC next fall. Session 1

Barb Lanciers is a second year MFA candidate at Towson University. She is trained in acting, voice and movement. She has worked extensively with Anne Bogart and Viewpoints, serving as Anne's assistant for individual and SITI training programs. Barb is also our current Administrative Assistant. Session 2

Pei Chi Ong is earning her second degree, a BA in Theatre at Towson University. She is originally from Malaysia and has appeared in numerous productions at Towson, most recently The Other Shore. She is an actor, precussionist, and movement theatre artists. Pei Chi is a practicing Buddhist who combines her artistic and spiritual practices in her performances. All Theatre Sessions.

Master Teacher - ART

He is a Ph.D. and an Associate Professor at Towson University and was recently appointed the co-director of the MFA Theatre Program.

Ric Royer is a writer, performer, postal artist, and student. He worked with young people for many years in the YMCA Children's Programs in Buffalo, N,Y. As an artists, he creates highly arranged scripts, scores, and instructions that inform a perform(er)ance but may also exist as visual art, visual poetry. His literary works have been reviewed on Anthesteria, and his performances on the RadioRadio program on the ubu website. His most recent multiart event opened at CHELA art space. Ric is an MFA candidate in Theatre at Towson University. He will join us for all three sessions.

Lauren Reymeni will join us for Session III this year. Lauren is a 2004 Towson Graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre. She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and is now a permanent
resident of Baltimore. Lauren has been involved with numerous shows, both onstage and backstage since she was in middle school, and has most recently appeared in "Fear" and "Henry V: The Warrior Project" here at Towson. In the future Lauren plans on attending graduate school for directing.She has worked with children in summer camps and programs for the past three years.

Summer 2003

Master Teachers

Matt Bowerman taught Mime/Comedy for Session II. Just before starting our program, he received his Masters Degree in Theatre Education. Matt taught for Patapsco High School for the Arts in 2002-03 and will be teaching at the Carver Center for the Arts in 2003-04. He recently added three more professionally appearances to the over 100 shows he has done in the U.S., including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional theatre. He also has a BA in Theatre fromTowson University

He is a Ph.D. and an Associate Professor at Towson University and was recently appointed the co-director of the MFA Theatre Program. He is the Program Director of Silver Penny.

Carol Anne Perini was the Director of Education and Outreach at Phoenix Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. She designed, developed and directed the educational programs for the company and collaborated with primary and secondary schools and community organizations. She studied at Hawaii Theatre for Youth, where she learned the art of devising plays with children. She has been a member of the Cookie Company at Phoenix Theatre and of Essential Theatre, a playback theatre company. In 1999 she received a national award for her one-act entitled M & M’s. She received her BA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance at ASU West and is currently an MFA candidate in Theatre at Towson University.

David Collins has appeared in "Hair,""Twelfth Night", and "Fear," an original movement theatre piece. He was also a part of "The Early Monday Morning Show," a Baltimore Improv troupe and has performed Stand-up Comedy at local open Mic nights. Dave taught inner city 3rd graders how to read via creative dramatics. He also has an AA degree in Professional Cooking and Baking from the Culinary School at Baltimore International College. He is a Theatre Major at Towson University.

Salima Chaldy was born in Casablanca and raised in France. Salima has appeared in numerous dramatic and comic productions, including Servant of Two Masters, Alchemy of Desire/dead man's blues, . She has also appeared in "ARCHIVE" and "Girlfriends" with the Sandy Spring Theatre Group. She is a Theatre Major at Towson University.

Master Teachers

Matt Bowerman returns for his second year as our musical theatre teacher. Matt teaches in the Theatre Magnet Program at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts. He has been awarded a Best Supporting Actor in Baltimore award (2000) and has performed in over 100 shows in the U.S., including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional theatre. He has a degree in Theatre from Towson University and will complete his Masters in Education in Theatre from Notre Dame in 2003.

He recently returned from South Africa and will be off to Brazil later this summer. He has performed his zany solo show of mime/comedy nationally and internationally and for Young Audiences of Maryland and the Maryland State Arts Council. He is a Ph.D. and an Associate Professor at Towson University. He is the Program Director of Silver Penny.

Allyson Healy joins us to teach acting for our second session. She is a Special Education teacher at Carver School for the Arts and has taught numerous theatre classes and workshops. She is also the production manager for Axis Theatre and has served as a stage manager for dozens of plays throughout the Baltimore area.

Marge Phillips will join us this year to teach acting for our first session. She currently teaches theatre and musical theatre at Edgewood Middle School. She will be teaching in the Maryland State Theatre Arts Summer Program when she leaves us this summer. She has directed scores of musicals and plays for young people in an educational career that spans 20 years.

Counselors

Katie Barth is a theatre major at Towson University. She is trained in voice, movement, and acting. Katie has worked extensively in educational child-care programs and as a social advocate. She is also a fine juggler.

Noelle Fair is also a theatre major at Towson University. She is trained in voice, movement and acting. She has worked with children for many years. Noelle likes kick-boxing and is handy with a hammer in the scene shop.

Jayne Murphy is with us again this year. She has a degree in Theatre from Towson University and is trained in acting, dance and musical theatre. She had the lead role last year in Pajama Game and last summer sang the lead in A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum.

 

Summer 2001


Master Teachers

Matt Bowerman is our musical theatre teacher. He is currently starring in Fiddler on the Roof. His day job? He is the theatre arts teacher at Patapsco High School for the Arts. Prior to that he taught at the Loch Raven Magnet School for the Arts, and before that he was on national tour in Man of La Mancha, The Outsiders, and Romeo and Juliet.

Tom Casciero will be teaching mime/comedy. He has trained actors in mime and physical theatre at Towson University and around the country for over fifteen years. He performed his zany solo show of mime/comedy nationally and internationally for ten years before getting his Ph.D. in Theatre. He is an Associate Professor at Towson University and the Program Director of Silver Penny Summer Theatre Program.

Michael McNulty is our acting teacher. He just finished directing Romeo and Juliet at Cockpit in Court. He is a freelance actor and director and is also the Artistic Director of Invisible Theatre. Michael was the head of the Performing Arts Department at Roland Park Country School for four years. He has just returned to Carnegie Mellon University to complete his MFA.

Counselors

Karen Imas is trained in acting, mime, dance, and physical theatre. She studied at Dartington College in England last fall and was recently invited to join Ardeo Theatre’s training program in France.

Jayne Murphy is trained in acting, dance and musical theatre. She had the lead role in Pajama Game at Towson University and this summer will sing the lead in A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum.

Angela Reed is trained in acting and dance. She recently appeared in The Trial of Dedan Kimathi, was assistant stage manager for The Miser, and worked behind the scenes for Indians, all at Towson University.
