Summer 2005 Program Director Tom Casciero, is the program director of the Silver Penny Summer Program. He has trained actors worldwide in physical theatre and voice/movement integration. He has performed his zany solo show of mime/comedy nationally and internationally and for Young Audiences of Maryland and the Maryland State Arts Council. He is a Ph.D. and an Associate Professor at Towson University and was recently appointed the co-director of the MFA Theatre Program.
Matt Bowerman will
teach for our Session II in Towson and Session
III in Forest Hill. Matt is teaching at the Carver Center for the
Arts and is an adjunct theatre instructor at Notre Dame College. He recently
added three more professionally appearances to the over 100 shows he has
done in the U.S., including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional
theatre. Matt is currently a Ph.D. candidate who holds a Masters Degree
in Theatre Education and a BA in Theatre fromTowson University. Kate Briante will teach for Session I and Session II in Towson. She currently teaches at the Carver Center for the Arts and is a private voice instructor at the Olfield School and at Towson University. Her extensive musical theatre background of over twenty roles includes off-Broadway productions of Company and The Vagabond Kings. She has also appeared in theatre, film and television. Most recently Kate performed in in The Gift of the Magi in Providence, Rhode Island and in The Sound of Music at the New Bedford Festival Theatre. Kate has a MFA in Theatre Performance from Rutgers University and a BA in Theatre from University of Tennessee. Marge Phillips will join us again this year to teach in Session III in Forest Hill. She currently teaches theatre and musical theatre at North Harford Middle School, where she has created a succesful theatre and musical theatre program in just one year. Prior to that she taught at Edgewood Middle School for many years and for the Maryland State Theatre Arts Summer Program. She has directed scores of musicals and plays for young people in an educational career that spans 20 years. Michael Todd will teach in Session I and Session II in Towson and Session III in Forest Hill. He is a total theatre person. He’s a producer, director, writer, singer, actor, designer of sound, video, and posters, a teacher to young people, and a great friend to people and animals. He moved to Baltimore from Oklahoma City, where he ran The Chocolate Factory Theatre Company, taught and directed full-time for Oklahoma City University’s School of Music Theatre & Opera, and worked as a professional actor. In New York, Michael was Assistant Director for Urinetown! The Musical and the Off-Broadway adaptation of Pirates of Penszance. He hopes your summer is a field of dreams. The Jokesters, Steve Bauer and Marianne Wittelsberger, will teach in Session I in Towson. They have been entertaining audiences all over the United States since 1983, including 8 Command Performances at the White House for Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton and a Royal Command Performance for the King of Saudi Arabia. Their unique style of entertainment combines Comedy, Mime & Magic into a personalized performance. Whether it's a half-hour Stage Show or strolling entertainment the JOKESTERS are sure to bring a smile to everyone's face. Counselors: TBA Ian Belknapp is a senior in the Performance Track in the Theatre Department at Towson University. He has appeared in numerous roles at Towson, most recently as Estragon in Waiting for Godot. He is the co- producer of Open Space, a rehearsal/performance venue for students. Ian is also the recipient of the prestigious John Glover Scholarship. All Theatre Sessions. Michael Caruthers has just been added to Session 3 (Bio will be added shortly) Temple Crocker is a third year MFA candidate at Towson University. She hails from San Francisco, where she ran her own experimental theatre collective and creatied original performance works. She is a designer as well as a performer. Temple is the recipient of a Graduate Fellowship Scholarship that will allow her to work with Robert Wilson, the guru of experimental theatre, in NYC next fall. Session 1 Barb Lanciers is a second year MFA candidate at Towson University. She is trained in acting, voice and movement. She has worked extensively with Anne Bogart and Viewpoints, serving as Anne's assistant for individual and SITI training programs. Barb is also our current Administrative Assistant. Session 2 Pei Chi Ong is earning her second degree, a BA in Theatre at Towson University. She is originally from Malaysia and has appeared in numerous productions at Towson, most recently The Other Shore. She is an actor, precussionist, and movement theatre artists. Pei Chi is a practicing Buddhist who combines her artistic and spiritual practices in her performances. All Theatre Sessions. Master Teachers - ART Melissa Shatto is a painter and mixed media artist. She has taught classes for adulta and children for Harford Community College, including the Discover College and Summer Academy summer programs for kids and young adults. Her work has been exhibited regionally and she is the founder of the Wilson Shatto Institute for the Arts. D.J. Webster is a mixed media painter and mural artist. She holds a BA and MA in Art Education. She has taught in Harford County public schools for 11 years, including the Summer Laureate Programs for the gifted and talented. She believes that art is not just a product, but also a way of experiencing the world and of growing creatively.

She received her B.A. in theatre from The College of Charleston, where she performed in mainstage and community productions, directed student productions and wrote plays and poetry. Ms. Cauthen has also taught in the public school system of North Carolina where she created a special curriculum for middle school children. She has also helped develop and operate The Genisis Youth Arts and Culture Camp, worked for the Moja Arts Festival and the Piccolo Spoleto Arts Festival, all in Charleston, SC. She is currently a MFA theatre student at Towson University. Marge Phillips will join us again this year to teach Musical Theatre in Session I in Towson and Acting in Session II in Forest Hill. As an artists, he creates highly arranged scripts, scores, and instructions that inform a perform(er)ance but may also exist as visual art, visual poetry. His literary works have been reviewed on Anthesteria, and his performances on the RadioRadio program on the ubu website. His most recent multiart event opened at CHELA art space. Ric is an MFA candidate in Theatre at Towson University. He will join us for all three sessions. Lauren

theatre. She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and is now a permanent

Carol Anne Perini was the Director of Education and Outreach at Phoenix Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. She designed, developed and directed the educational programs for the company and collaborated with primary and secondary schools and community organizations. She studied at Hawaii Theatre for Youth, where she learned the art of devising plays with children. She has been a member of the Cookie Company at Phoenix Theatre and of Essential Theatre, a playback theatre company. In 1999 she received a national award for her one-act entitled M & M’s. She received her BA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance at ASU West and is currently an MFA candidate in Theatre at Towson University. Counselors Rosiland M. Cauthen - see bio above. David Collins has appeared in "Hair,""Twelfth Night", and "Fear," an original movement theatre piece. He was also a part of "The Early Monday Morning Show," a Baltimore Improv troupe and has performed Stand-up Comedy at local open Mic nights. Dave taught inner city 3rd graders how to read via creative dramatics. He also has an AA degree in Professional Cooking and Baking from the Culinary School at Baltimore International College. He is a Theatre Major at Towson University. Salima Chaldy was born in Casablanca and raised in France. Salima has appeared in numerous dramatic and comic productions, including Servant of Two Masters, Alchemy of Desire/dead man's blues, . She has also appeared in "ARCHIVE" and "Girlfriends" with the Sandy Spring Theatre Group. She is a Theatre Major at Towson University. Ric

Summer 2002 Master Teachers Matt
Bowerman returns for his second year as our musical theatre
teacher. Matt teaches in the Theatre Magnet Program at Patapsco High School
and Center for the Arts. He has been awarded a Best Supporting Actor in
Baltimore award (2000) and has performed in over 100 shows in the U.S.,
including National tours, Off-Broadway and regional theatre. He has a
degree in Theatre from Towson University and will complete his Masters
in Education in Theatre from Notre Dame in 2003. Counselors Katie
Barth is a theatre major at Towson University. She is trained
in voice, movement, and acting. Katie has worked extensively in educational
child-care programs and as a social advocate. She is also a fine juggler.

Matt
Bowerman is our musical theatre teacher. He is currently
starring in Fiddler on the Roof. His day job? He is the theatre arts teacher
at Patapsco High School for the Arts. Prior to that he taught at the Loch
Raven Magnet School for the Arts, and before that he was on national tour
in Man of La Mancha, The Outsiders, and Romeo and Juliet. Counselors Karen
Imas is trained in acting, mime, dance, and physical theatre.
She studied at Dartington College in England last fall and was recently
invited to join Ardeo Theatre’s training program in France.
