PENNY THEATRE COMPANY
We're dedicated
to creating original works of art and to training others to unleash their
creative potential via the arts. We believe that art nourishes the soul
and that artists nourish the society.
SUMMER
THEATER PROGRAMS
We offer young people the opportunity to be trained in the theatre arts
by professional theatre artists and educators. Guest artists will also
bring us their artistry and passion for the arts. It is an ideal setting
for young artists to grow as performers, but more importantly, to grow
as human beings.
PROGRAM
FORMAT
Learners work in small groups of 16 -18. Groups are age appropriate (8-10,
10-12, 12-14) and will rotate through each of the subjects on a daily
basis. There are frequent breaks. Learners are to bring a bag lunch, snack,
and drink each day.The end of the day is reserved for enrichment classes,
guest artists or rehearsals. An informal showing and celebration takes
place on the last day of each session.
PROGRAM
FACULTY

our teaching faculty are working professionals with established credentials
as artists and educators. Counselors that assist our master teachers are

YEAR'S THEMES
Each session is theme-based. Our master teachers carefully develop text,
techniques, exercises, group work and improvisations that grow from and
support each theme. Students interested in attending two different sessions
or those who have previously attended our program will enjoy the variery
offered by our diffferent themes. There will be a significant difference
in content, materials, and approaches for each one.
Session
1: “Metamorphosis”
Towson University Center for the Arts June
25 – June 6 Ages
8-14
“a change of physical form, structure, or substance…a
striking alteration in appearance or character”
Theatre is a magical place of change! You can change yourself, the other
actors, the theatre space, and even
the audience. Want to become anything from an aardvark to alien, a bronosaurus
to a bronco?. Just change the way you look, sound, and feel . Want to
change the performance space to outer space? Just grab a paintbrush and
glitter, add some imagination and you're ready for takeoff.. How about
changing the audience? Just get real. Being honest is what really transforms
the play, the players, and the folks watching. Come join us in creating
and celebrating...change!
Session 2: “Arts Revolution: an
uprising of creativity”
Towson University Center for the Arts July
9 – July 20 Ages
8-14
We want you, our Silver Penny artists, to rise up and storm the stage
with your brand new ideas for this ancient art we call theatre. You’ll
experiment with fresh ways to create new work and to adapt old work. Then
you'll put it on stage in your own unique way. Go ahead, show your best
in acting, comedy, stage combat, and song, and dance. Add make-up and
costumes too. From comedy sports to creative writing, we know you'll redefine
what it means to "Play the Play!" .
CLASSES:
Acting/Creative
Drama
Discover where creativity can take you each day. Step into an empty space
and become anyone, anywhere, anytime, as you work on scripts, create characters,
and bring plays to life. You'll learn warm-ups, explorations, and rehearsal
and performance techniques. Whether writing short plays or taking them
from page to stage, we know you'll play, question, and unlock your imagination.
Musical Theatre
Broadway comes alive as you explore the songs and dances from
some of your favorite musicals. You'll learn voice and movement warm-ups,
and solo and group performance work. Our staff will challenge you whether
you been singing showtunes on stage or just singing opera in the shower.
Dive in!
Theatre Games & Comedy
Zip-Zap-Boom!
Count down to laughter begins day one at Silver Penny. With high energy
games, comedy sports, and group improvs, you'll find your world looking
like "Whose Liine is it Anyway." You'll also take a look in
the funhouse mirror to find the rubber face, cartoon body, and true heart
of your Silver Penny clown. Join us for the fun of it!
