Representing the Student Body
The Student Government Association, what is commonly called the SGA, is dedicated to improving students' academic, social and cultural environments. Each student contributes indirectly to these aims by payment of the student activity fee, a percentage of which goes to SGA. Student participate directly by taking advantage of the services offered and by getting involved in SGA itself.
It is your SGA. Upon enrolling in Towson University, all students become a member of the Student Government Association. This is the primary organization, which represents all students on planning, organizing, and directing the student organizations and programs on campus. The Student Government Association works jointly with the faculty and administration in certain designated areas of governance of the University.
The Senate of the Student Government Association
The SGA senate has the power to regulate affiliated student organizations. the senate is comprised of current, freshmen and transfer students. The senate meets every Tuesday on the third floor of the University Union.
The senate has the power to govern the distribution of all funds granted by the Administration. This body has the responsibility of supervising student organizations financial records. The senate has the power to affiliate or expel any organization or suspend the activities of any organization. In addition, all student organizations must be affiliated with the Student Government Organization in order to receive SGA funds. The Senate cannot be held responsible for the actions of any affiliated organizations.
