
School Psychology Admission Requirements
1. Prerequisite courses: (These are
to be completed prior to beginning coursework in the School Psychology
Program. Under special circumstances, a student may be allowed to
complete one prerequisite during the summer prior to entrance into the
program or during the first semester of the program, while completing
other required graduate coursework) Prerequisites may be taken at
any accredited institution of higher learning, including community
colleges.
At least
21 credits in psychology, which include courses in each of the following
six areas:
- Behavioral Statistics
- Social Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology
- A minimum of 3 credit hours selected
from the following: Experimental Psychology, Experimental Design, or
Research Design
- A minimum of 3 credit hours selected
from the following: Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, Human
Development
- A minimum of 3 credit hours selected
from the following: Educational Psychology, Behavior Theory, or
Behavior Management

2. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2
is required for admission to the program. Students with GPA's
between 3.00 and3.19 with special circumstances may be admitted
conditionally.
3. Two copies of transcripts from each university
attended should be sent to the Graduate School.
4. Three letters of recommendation
sent to the Graduate School. At least one should be from a
professor.
5. A letter of intent indicating
why the applicant is interested in pursuing graduate study in school psychology
sent directly to the Graduate School.
6. Acceptable performance on the
General test of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), with scores no more than five years old from the time of application to the program. Competency for
graduate study can also be evidenced by an earned masters' or doctoral
degree in psychology in lieu of the GRE. (It is not necessary to
take the Psychology Specialty Test).
7. Completed
application, which
includes a $40.00 non-refundable application fee.
8. All application materials must
meet the deadline of January 15th for Fall admissions.
Applications are not accepted for Spring admission.
9. The highest-ranking applicants
will be required to interview with the faculty of the School Psychology
program.
