Transferring New Course Work

Graduate Students

Current degree seeking students interested in taking courses at another college/university to transfer into Towson University will need to complete a Transfer Petition Form.


Please Read the Following Carefully:

Course Work Completed Prior to Admission to Towson University:

  1. You must be a current graduate degree seeking candidate in good academic standing. Non-degree students cannot transfer course work to their record.

  2. If the course work was completed prior to your admission to your current graduate program, you must submit all paperwork during your first enrolled term.  The transfer petition request, a copy of the catalog description of the course, and the official transcript must be submitted for the request to be considered.

  3. Students may take courses for transfer to Towson University comprising no more than half of their program requirements.

  4. Signatures
    • Signature of the graduate program director is required for all courses taken.
    • Student’s signature is required as confirmation that the policy has been read.

  5. To begin the process, please return the completed form, catalog description, and official transcript (if not previously submitted to Graduate Admissions at time of application) to the Office of the Registrar, Academic Standards Committee, Enrollment Services Center, Room 236.  Students are also encouraged to include their rationale for how the transfer credit will fit with their program of study.

 

Course Work to be Taken After Admission to a Graduate Program at Towson University:

  1. Course work to be taken after admission to a graduate program must be preapproved by the Registrar’s Office and Graduate Program Director by submitting the transfer petition request along with a copy of the catalog description of the course.

  2. With prior permission, students may take courses for transfer to Towson University comprising no more than half of their program requirements.

  3. Signatures
    • Signature of the graduate program director is required for course preauthorization.
    • Student’s signature is required as confirmation that the policy has been read.

  4. To begin the process, please return the completed form and catalog description to the Office of the Registrar, Academic Standards, Enrollment Services Center, Room 236.  Students are also encouraged to include their rationale for how the transfer credit will fit with their program of study.

  5. Once the course has been approved and completed, you will need to request an official sealed transcript from the transferring school.  Please send the transcript to:
