REMEDY

WHAT CAN WE

DO NOW!

When looking at how to solve the global warming problem many remedies come to mind. Some prefer the "wait and see" atitiude which is do nothing until the predictions of global warming come upon us. For the people who do not want to gamble with our atmosphere's future, there are many solutions that can reduce greenhouse gases.

To reduce greenhouse gases we must reduce the use of those things that rely on carbon dioxide, methane and CFCs. Methane will be almost impossible to reduce since most of methane is produced by cattle. However those manmade uses of methane such as on oil rigs, another source of energy can be created to burn the flares.

CFCs is a synthetic chemical which can be reduced or eliminated. Those products that use CFCs can find another alternative. Aresol cans have switch from CFCS to a form of air pumps to make the product spray out of the can. Instead of using syrofoam cups and plates, use paper. Maufactureres of refrigerators and air conditioners are rapidly coming up with a coolant substitute to replace CFCs.

The most significant reduction will be of carbon dioxide. If we want to slow down global warming, we must reduce this greenhouse gas drastically. Automobiles and trucks burn the highest precentage of carbon. Some ideas to lower this amount have triggered more people to carpool or take public transportation. Manufacturers of automobiles are developing cars that will burn less carbon, or will not need fuel at all. These cars that will not require fuel will use electricity to run the car. Electricity is an excellent source of energy that is safe for the atmosphere. The picture of the rodster represents how serious manufactureres are about replacing fossil fuel with electric energy. Reducing the amount of cars emitting carbon or driving alternative energy cars will significantly slow down global warming.

Solar energy is another alternative that has been experimented with for the replacement of oil and gas to heat our homes. Solar heat plants are being created around the world to turn the heat from the sun into energy that can be used. This solar energy can provide heat for our homes and can be used to make electricity. The advantage of solar energy is that it is safe and clean. Unlike fossil fuel it is reuseable. Nuclear power plants is an option that has been considered to generate electricity. Nuclear power does not release carbon dioxide, but it does have its own downfalls. People fear nuclear spills which is far more dangerous than carbon. Also nuclear plants are too expensive to build and operate.
