Every Spring semester, ten Towson State Students are selected to participate in the Model Organization of American States, a simulation course which involves a one week conference in the Organizatrion of American States headquarters in Washington D.C.
The M.O.A.S, offered at Towson State, as an upper level Political Science class, provides students with an opportunity to actively participate in a simulated environment where foreign policy making, decision making, and diplomatic behavior is used, giving the students an understanding of international organizations and how they carry out their mission. Conflict resolution, diplomatic communications, and Inter-American awareness are the focus of the course. During the academic event which takes place in Washington, D.C., students participate in the simulation of the OAS General Assembly, presenting their resolutions, caucusing and debating issues thsat affect the Western Hemisphere.
Towson State University has been participating in the M.O.A.S. since 1980 and has received recognition for the outstanding delegations that it has presented in the past. The course,M.O.A.S., appears as Political Science 385 in the T.S.U. catalog, and is only offered to a maximum of 10 students. Interested applicants should contact Dr. David Dent during the beginning of the Fall semester, as the selection process is competitive due to the limited enrollment and the nature of the course.
