Programs

Goals

The goals of the proposed REU/RET programs are:

1. To develop experimental skills, stimulate scientific interest, and enhance the attitudes toward science of all participants.
· For the undergraduate student participants, this will encourage a career in scientific research and stimulate graduate school consideration.
· Participation by in-service teachers will improve their attitudes, perceptions, and understanding of science, resulting in a greater retention of teachers. The teachers will also be required to integrate their research experience into a curricular activity to be used in their classes.

2. To increase the number of future professionals in the sciences

3. To provide hands on experiences in novel, state of the art research

4. To understand the learn the importance of ethics in science
