Edward V. Badolato Distinguished Speaker Series in Homeland Security

Towson University is proud to host the Edward V. Badolato Distinguished Speaker Series in Homeland Security. Endowed by the late Colonel Edward V. Badolato, USMC (Ret.), the speaker series will bring to campus distinguished leaders in the field of Homeland Security to share their perspective on what needs to be done to combat terrorism and make our nation safer. Colonel Badolato graduated from Towson University and served under former Presidents Reagan and Bush as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Energy, specializing in counter-terrorism and emergency planning. Colonel Badolato was an internationally recognized expert in the field of energy and environmental operations, contingency planning, and emergency response. He was also a retired Marine Corps Colonel with three combat tours in Viet Nam.

Frances Townsend, a partner with the law firm Baker Botts LLP, is the former Homeland Security Advisor to former President George W. Bush. Ms. Townsend is a contributor for CNN and has regularly appeared on network and cable television as a counterterrorism, national and homeland security expert. She has received numerous awards for her public service accomplishments.

Maryland Congressman C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger—the 36th Most powerful member of Congress according to the newly released 2007 Knowlegis is “Pre-Season Power rankings” —served as keynote speaker for the fifth lecture in the Distinguished Speaker Series in Homeland Security at Towson University. Ruppersberger serves on the highly sought after Appropriations Committee, is chairman of the Technical and Tactical Intelligence Subcommittee within the Intelligence Committee, and is also a member of the Terrorism, Human Intelligence, Analysis and Counterintelligence Subcommittee.

Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese, III, author of, The Heritage Guide to the Constitution, served as keynote speaker for the fourth lecture in the Edward V. Badolato Distinguished Speaker Series in Homeland Security at Towson University, on June 28

Mr. Meese, who currently serves as Ronald Reagan Distinguished Fellow in Public Policy and chairman of the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation, discussed considerations of civil liberties in a post-September 11 world.
November 17, 2005
Colonel Edward V. Badolato, USMC (Retired) served as panel moderator for the second event held as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series in Homeland Security. The panel featured representatives well versed in an “All Hazards” approach to Homeland Security and represented key stakeholders from the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency.
