What is GIS?

what is gis imageGIS—Geographic Information Systems—empowers any organization with the right tools to put geospatial data to work.

GIS technology captures, manages, analyzes, and displays geographically referenced information to make the information useful. By integrating innovative processes from a variety of disciplines, applications created with GIS technology help organizations enhance decision-making, efficiency, productivity, and profitability.

GIS can also join geographic data with Web server technology so valuable information can be delivered quickly and easily to an organization, via an Intranet, or to everyone, via the Internet.
