Course Description: This course emphasizes advanced topics in database management systems. Topics include: query processing, transaction processing, concurrency and recovery techniques, advanced database models, object-oriented databases, object-relational databases, Web databases, distributed databases, Data warehousing and OLAP.

 

 

Course Objectives:

 

Upon completion of this course students should have a clear understanding of:

 

1.         the advanced topics in database management systems;

 

2.         the distributed database management systems and emerging data models;

 

3.         the need for data warehouses and OLAP;

 

4.         the Web based database applications and management systems;
