Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science

Occupational Therapy (OT) is the art and science of facilitating human participation in occupation (i.e., self-care, leisure and work tasks) to restore, reinforce and enhance   performance, facilitate learning of skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity, diminish pathology, and promote health.

Occupational therapy students measure driver-vehicle fit and give safety recommendations to a Towson University student during HealthFest 2006

Occupational therapists use self-care, work, homemaking, play and leisure activities as therapeutic activities.

Occupation is used to assist individuals or groups whose health is threatened or impaired by developmental deficits, aging, poverty and environmental conditions, physical injury or illness, and psychological and social disability.
