
New Student Programs
Welcome to Towson
"Welcome to Towson" is Towson University’s orientation for
new students. Programs and events are planned for the first days
and weeks of the semester that will give you the resources and
connections you need to be a successful member of the TU
community.
New Student Orientation for freshmen (called Welcome to
Towson) begins on Thursday, August 28, 2008 and continues
through the first week of class. All of the events on Thursday,
August 28, Friday, August 29, and Saturday, August 30 are
required for all incoming freshmen.
Events are being planned for the entire opening weekend
(Labor Day Weekend) and students are encouraged to plan on being
on campus for the entire weekend. The first day of class is
Tuesday, September 2, 2008.
Opening Weekend Events
Students and families will receive detailed and complete
orientation schedules when they arrive on campus. Students will
receive their schedules in their Welcome to Towson packets
(University Union - Chesapeake I) and families can pick up
Parent and Family Orientation Schedules at the Welcome to Towson
information table (University Union 2nd floor lobby).
Day 1 - Getting Started
Thursday, August 28, 2008
9:00 AM - 9:00 PM
All freshmen Pick up their Welcome to Towson packet, including
important individual information regarding required orientation
events - University Union (UU) 3rd floor Chesapeake. (Students
must pick up their packet in person.)
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
All freshmen resident students move in to their residence halls.
More information about this process will be sent along with
housing assignment information in mid-August
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Welcome to Towson Resource Fair in the University Union (UU) 2nd
floor, Potomac Lounge.
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Parent Association Welcome Tent - UU patio.
12:00 Noon - 1:30 PM
Commuter Meeting & Picnic - All freshmen commuter students are
invited. Enjoy lunch on us and learn about all the resources
available for commuter students. Please RSVP by calling
410-704-2332.
4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Disability Support Services Orientation Meeting in UU 3rd floor
Chesapeake III.
Meet the staff and learn more about the services offered at
Towson University for students with disabilities. There will be
a meet and greet, a workshop for new students, and an
information session for their parents. Light refreshments will
be served. For more information, contact Disability Support

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Residence Hall Floor Meetings - Exact times vary, All freshmen
resident students should check with their Resident Assistant
upon moving in to clarify exact times.
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Center for Student Diversity Meet & Greet (Parents & Family
only). UU Potomac Lounge.
8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Welcome Carnival (students only) - Burdick Field.
10:00 PM – 12:00 Midnight
Target Late-Night Shopping Event (Students Only). Shuttles will
leave from the carnival.
Day 2 - Academic Transitions
Friday, August 29, 2008
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Late pick-up for Welcome to Towson packets, including important
individual information regarding required orientation events -
UU 3rd floor Chesapeake.
9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
“Parent Drive-In” program in UU 2nd floor Potomac Lounge. This
is the same program offered in late July and is offered at this
time to accommodate families who live farther from the
university or were unable to attend in July. Details will be
provided in the Parent Pride Resource Guide sent to parents in
mid-June
9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
OL/FYE Meeting I (students only) - Meeting location is listed on
student course schedule under ORIE305.
All Freshmen meet in their First Year Experience group (FYE) to
be introduced to their FYE faculty advisor and Orientation
Leader (OL). Students will review their first semester class
schedule at this meeting and receive other important
information.

Students and families say goodbye to one another. Parent and
Family orientation ends. Students continue on with Welcome to
Towson events. All family members are expected to leave campus
by 6:00 PM.

New Student Conference
A detailed copy of the schedule will be distributed with
freshmen Welcome Packets. Refreshments will be served in UU 2nd
floor lobby. All events count towards the freshmen PICK Passport
program. Prizes will be awarded at each session including free
tickets to the Collegetown Night at the Orioles. Students choose from a variety of topics including:

- Student Government Association (SGA)
- Greek Life
- Staying Healthy
- First Week Classroom Skills
- Campus Recreation
- Green Campus Initiatives
- Center for Student Diversity
- On-Campus Job Fair

Day 5 - Exploring Baltimore

(Monday events are for students only.)
Collegetown Shuttle to Inner Harbor - Take advantage of the free
shuttle (using TU ID) to Inner Harbor and all downtown Baltimore
has to offer. Students can travel independently or in small
groups.
Maryland State Fair – Win your free Gate and Ride passes at the Sunday afternoon
events.
Day 6 - Classes Begin
