Assistant Professor of Spanish/Foreign Language Teacher Education

The Department of Foreign Languages at Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2012.

Position entails teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture courses at all levels, as well as mentoring and supervising foreign language majors in the Secondary Education Program.

Commitment to teaching excellence and scholarship essential. The successful candidate will work with faculty in Spanish, French, German, and Chinese in maintaining program standards for the preparation of foreign language teachers and will take primary responsibility for liaison with the College of Education in securing and retaining accreditation. Familiarity and experience with NCATE and ACTFL standards and practices a plus.

Research specialization open, but may include foreign language acquisition and pedagogy, applied linguistics and/or phonetics, and/or language teacher preparation and certification. Ph.D. and native or near-native fluency in Spanish required.

Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the MLA Convention by prearranged appointment for those available.
