Responsibilities

 

Teach courses primarily in the undergraduate Mass Communication program, including the major’s capstone course, Mass Communication Research, as well as general mass communication courses. Ability to teach courses and supervise theses in the department’s Master of Science program in Communications Management is a plus. This position requires a teaching load of 9 contact hours per semester during the first three years. Scholarly research productivity and service to the department, college and university as appointed are expected.

Appointment

Ten-month appointment with the possibility of additional summer compensation for teaching. Start date: August 2010. This position is contingent on funds being available at the time of hire.

Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. in the field of communication/mass communication or ABD (completion of all doctoral work required by February 1, 2011). Demonstrated success or potential as a classroom teacher is required. Potential research productivity is required, and evidence or interest in securing external funding preferred. Experience with innovative classroom technology and/or on-line learning is a plus.

 

The Department

 

The Department offers a major in Communication Studies and a major in Mass Communication with tracks in Journalism and New Media, Advertising, and Strategic Public Relations and Integrated Communication. A master’s degree is offered in Communications Management. The department annually enrolls approximately 1,400 majors served by 26 full-time and 50 part-time faculty.
