Applicants are invited for a tenure-track position starting Fall 2009, contingent on funding. Doctorate or ABD in chemistry, related scientific discipline or science education and record in scholarship of teaching and learning required. Secondary teaching experience a plus. The successful candidate will have responsibilities in teaching, research and professional service. These will include teaching methods courses in secondary science education and content courses in chemistry, supervising secondary student teachers and MAT students, participating in professional development opportunities for secondary science teachers and developing an active, externally funded research program in chemical education. The successful candidate will collaborate with Towson's strong network of science and mathematics education faculty to recruit future science teachers in Chemistry and other STEM disciplines and serve as a tenure track faculty member in the Department of Chemistry.
Science and mathematics education faculty at Towson collaborate with colleagues in the College of Education and participate in the programs of the Center for Science and Mathematics Education, STEM-Teaching Community, Hackerman Academy (outreach programs to local schools), STEM Steering Committee and the NSF TOPS grant.
The Chemistry Department is ACS accredited. It enrolls about 280 undergraduates in Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Chemistry Secondary Education and 35 graduate students in the Masters in Forensic Science program. It supports the Environmental Science and Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Bioinformatics programs. Further information can be found at www.towson.edu/chemistry.
