Michael
Decker coordinates the Music Department's programs in guitar
performance and music industry. A graduate of Millersville University
and the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Decker is
nationally recognized for his work as a performer, conductor,
pedagogue, author, and arts administrator. Mr. Decker performs as a first-call free-lance
musician in Baltimore and Washington. He has performed and recorded
with the Baltimore and National Symphony Orchestras and performed as
orchestral musician for the Kennedy Center Opera House, Baltimore
Opera, Center Stage, Lyric Theatre, Morris A. Mechanic Theatre, Res
Musica, Folger Shakespeare Theatre and Choral Arts Society. Mr.
Decker has played on over one hundred recording sessions for commercial
records, television and film, including two Grammy award and one
RIAA-certified gold record. He has performed throughout the United
States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. In 2002 Decker
performed on mandolin and bouzouki with Placido Domingo and the
Washington National Opera for the Asian tour.
Decker recently became President of the Musicians Association of
Metropolitan Baltimore, Local 40=543 of the American Federation of
Musicians. His most recent recording with colleague Luis Engelke,
is Songs, Reminiscences and Impressions: Music for Trumpet and Guitar
on the Tijuca Music label.
