Diversifying
Diversity:
Broadening
Representations of Inclusion
Diversity influences and shapes our Towson
community as well as communities throughout the world.
Definitions of diversity, however, are consistently limited in
the scope where certain individuals, communities, and identities
are emphasized while others remain on the margins. Inspired by
recent representations of diversity in our local community, as
well as in higher education, this year's Multicultural
Conference seeks to question and complicate definitions,
understandings, and approaches to diversity. By diversifying
diversity, we hope to expand our current representations of
inclusion.
Proposals might address:
* New definitions of, and
approaches for, "diversity" and "inclusion"
* The identification and (re)claiming
of identities that have become lost in discussions and
representations of diversity
* Negotiation of multiple
identities & intersectional approaches to diversity
* Diverse approaches to knowing,
thinking, and learning within the academy
Students, staff, faculty, and administrators of
Towson University are invited to submit abstracts (200-300
words) for papers, panels, roundtable discussions, workshops,
performance art, artwork, displays, etc.
