The Maryland International Education Association (MIEA)
was created with funding from the Maryland Commission for
Celebration 2000. Recognizing that Maryland’s college
and university graduates need experience in the global arena
to be competitive in the job market, MIEA seeks to foster
international education opportunities for students at Maryland
higher education institutions.
MIEA is an affiliate of the Maryland Secretary of State as
part of its Subcabinet
for International Affairs.
MIEA provides the following services to its members and residents
of Maryland:
- A website providing international education and study
abroad resources for both professionals and students;
- A Study Abroad Scholarship, awarded two times a year
to residents of Maryland attending study abroad programs;
- Information on international education programs and activities
in the State of Maryland;
- Advocacy on behalf of international education with state
agencies, legislature, higher education institutions and
the business community.
The
Maryland International Education Association is a unique organization
that fills a critical need in higher education. If we want
our young people to be effective leaders in a global community,
we need to make international study more accessible. MIEA
does just that. The Maryland Commission for Celebration 2000,
which I chaired, was very pleased to have provided significant
funding for this important program which supports foreign
studies opportunities for deserving students attending Maryland
colleges and universities.
