The Maryland Educators’ Summer Research Program (MESRP), a research internship and outreach program for motivated mathematics and science teachers, invites inservice (teachers already in the profession) and preservice (undergraduate students in a teacher preparation program) candidates to apply for a summer internship at one of many exciting sites across Maryland.

Interns will be competitively chosen by a selection committee and notified of acceptance on or about April 15, 2004. Several alternates are typically selected in the event that someone is unable to accept a position.
Please give consideration to the commitment you are applying for, as the scoring and placement process is very time intensive. We ask that candidates who are recommended for placement notify MESRP of intent to decline placement no later than 14 days following receipt of the placement recommendation.
Candidates will be asked to contact their Site Representative for an on-site visit to meet their potential Research Mentor and discuss the research project. Research Sites retain the right of refusal and will contact MESRP within 7 days of the on-site visit should the Site Representative choose to decline the candidate. In the event a site refuses placement, every effort will be made for placement at another of the sites chosen by the candidate.
Teachers selected as Interns will participate in a six to eight-week summer internship in a Maryland research facility. In most cases, experienced teachers will be paired with preservice teachers (usually from the Maryland Collaborative for Teacher Preparation Program, which provides intensive hands-on undergraduate training in mathematics and science to future teachers attending University System of Maryland institutions). Pairing preservice and inservice teachers at the research sites provides additional opportunities to build relationships and mentoring between experienced, knowledgeable teachers, and future teachers, who will soon begin their own mathematics and science teaching careers.
As an intern with MESRP, you will have an opportunity to build on your previous professional development experiences, develop practical research skills, enhance your classroom resources, and make a real difference in science, mathematics, and/or technology education in Maryland.
