GROUP ADVISING
Group Advising is designed for pre-mass communication, mass communication, and communication studies majors who have not previously participated in our mandatory advising program under any format, and for 1st Semester Transfer Students. It is not intended for First-Year Experience (FYE) students or first semester transfer students.
Group sessions will provide a general overview of our program regardless of track. Session leaders cover topics such as gen. ed. requirements, core course requirements, screening courses, electives, and provide suggestions for successful track(s) progression. Verified attendance at a group session along with a completed and signed Mass Communication or Communication Studies Major Advising Form allows the department to lift the advising hold flag from your PeopleSoft student account.
The hold flag must be lifted prior to registration for the upcoming semester. The hold flag will be lifted within 5 – 7 business days following the group meeting. It is your responsibility to verify the removal of the hold flag prior to registration.
Students who attend a group session may choose to continue with individual advising at any time. Either option shall not preclude a student from attending either group or individual advising in the future.
You must bring a copy of your degree progress report to the group advising meeting.
