Departmental Scholarships and Awards for Juniors and Seniors

  • Joyce C. Neubert Award in Mathematics
    Award:   
    Varies from year to year - approximately $500.  One award annually.
    Criteria: Undergraduate mathematics major, junior standing as of March 1.  Nominated and voted on by a scholarship committee appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics. The award will be based on academic achievement, ability, creativity, and interest in Mathematics. Special consideration will be given to students who have shown a commitment to the Towson University community. All student recipients are expected to write a thank you note to the donor representative.   The recipient will be contacted by the Office of Development with more information on the acknowledgment process soon after notification of selection.
  • Ann L. Wagner Award
    Award:   Varies from year to year - approximately $750.  One award annually.
    Criteria:  Undergraduate mathematics major with at least junior standing and a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher as of September 1.  Special consideration will be given to students preparing to teach secondary school mathematics.  Full-time and part-time students are eligible.  Award is not based on financial need, nor is United States or Maryland citizenship required.  Nominated and voted on by a scholarship committee appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics.  All student recipients are expected to write a thank you note to the donor representative.  The recipient will be contacted by the Office of Development with more information on the acknowledgment process soon after notification of selection.
  • Eunice Bowers Schmied (Class of 1930) and Otto Karl Schmied Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics
    Award:   
    Approximately $1500, but varies from year to year.  One or more awards annually.
    Criteria: Undergraduate Mathematics major, at least sophomore standing as of September 1.  Nominated and voted on by a scholarship committee appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics.  All student recipients are expected to write a thank you note to the donor representative.   The recipient will be contacted by the Office of Development with more information on the acknowledgment process soon after notification of selection.
  • Dollenberg Family Endowed Scholarship
    Award:   
    Approximately $1000, but varies from year to year.  One or more awards annually.
    Criteria: Full time undergraduate Mathematics major with a concentration in Mathematics Secondary Education. Must demonstrate financial need, be in good academic standing, and be graduates of a Baltimore City or Baltimore County high school. Applicants should contact the chairperson of the Department of Mathematics before March 1.   All student recipients are expected to write a thank you note to the donor representative.   The recipient will be contacted by the Office of Development with more information on the acknowledgment process soon after notification of selection.
  • Mary Hudson Scarborough Award for Excellence in Mathematics
    Award:   
    A book.  One award annually.
    Criteria:   Outstanding graduating Senior Mathematics major.  Nominated and voted on by a scholarship committee appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics.
  • Mary Hudson Scarborough Award for Excellence in Secondary Mathematics Education
    Award:   
    A book.  One award annually.
    Criteria:   Outstanding graduating Senior Mathematics major with a Secondary Education concentration.  Nominated and voted on the mathematics education committee which is appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics.
  • Mary Hudson Scarborough Award for Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Education
    Award:   
    A book.  One award annually.
    Criteria:   Outstanding graduating Senior Elementary Education major with a minor in Mathematics.  Nominated and voted on the mathematics education committee which is appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics.
  • Mary Hudson Scarborough Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Mathematics Education
    Award:   
    A book.  One award annually.
    Criteria:   Outstanding graduating Senior Early Childhood Education major with a minor in Mathematics.  Nominated and voted on the mathematics education committee which is appointed by the Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics.
