Developmental and Stretch Mathematics Sequence
DVMT 101 Developmental Mathematics
Summary
DVMT 101 covers units 1 and 2 of the developmental mathematics sequence. The detailed learning outcomes of those units is available here. DVMT 101 counts 4 credits towards full-time status, but carries no credit towards graduation.
If you pass units 1 and 2, then you get a 'Pass' in DVMT 101, but you still need to take MATH 102 (that is, pass units 3 and 4).
If you pass only unit 1, then the following semester you can complete DVMT 101 by retaking DVMT 101, but just work on and pass unit 2. Keep in mind that if you do not pass unit 2 this time, you will need to retake DVMT 101 again and pass both unit 1 and unit 2.
What is Course Compass?
This is an on-line service that grades your homeworks and quizzes, tells you which problems you need to work on to pass the exam, shows you how to solve problems similar to what you have in homework, has video of lectures, can bring up the relevant pages of your textbook, and does many other good things.
You need to buy an access code to use Course Compass. You can either buy a new textbook in the University Bookstore (it comes packaged with the code: do not throw away the wrap!); or you can buy it online at www.coursecompass.com. This access code enables you to use the e-version of the textbook. Registering on Course Compass is required for DVMT 101. This code is good for one calendar year.
What is the grading policy?
You need to earn a total of 70 points (out of a possible 100 points) in order to pass each unit. Your total points for each unit are calculated by adding:
- 80% of the unit test,
- 10% of web homework and chapter tests, and
- 10% for class attendance.
