Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid Recipients
Financial aid recipients must make satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of a degree while maintaining good standing as defined in the university catalogs. This policy measures two areas:
- Number of units completed in relation to the number of units attempted at Towson and transferred to Towson.
- Timeframe for completion of degree.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Developmental courses do not count as attempted and/or earned units and cannot exceed 24 units without permission from the Financial Aid Appeals Committee.
- All units on your schedule on the first day of class each term count, unless you drop the course or completely withdraw from the university during the 100 percent refund period for that term.
- Only courses completed with an earned letter grade or passed under Pass/Fail provision count toward units completed. Coursework earning the following grades will not count as units completed: AU (Audit), W (Withdraw), I (Incomplete), U (Unsatisfactory), F or FX (Failure).
- A student with a medical withdrawal can appeal to the Financial Aid Appeals Committee to exclude the units attempted for one term of medical withdrawal from the SAP calculation.
- Students who have aid canceled because of failure to comply with the SAP policy may appeal to the Financial Aid Appeals Committee. Appeals must be written by the student, and must include a statement outlining the causes of poor academic performance and a formal plan for regaining compliance with the policy. If the Appeals Committee approves the appeal, the student will receive an aid offer of funds available at the time of approval.
