Receiving Aid

Verification of Independent Student Status

We will require separate verification if you applied for aid as an independent undergraduate student and will not reach the age of 24 by December 31, 2007.  You must provide documentation to verify that you meet the Federal Title IV definition of an independent student in accordance with the requirements in the following table.

Required documentation:

Married

Marriage certificate

Orphan/ward of court

Death certificates for both parents, or court documents

Veteran

DD214 showing release from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable

Having dependent children

Copy of child’s birth certificate or registration and copy of your 2006 Federal Income Tax Return listing child as a dependent

Having dependents (other than children or spouse)

Documentation of dependent person’s address: driver’s license, school ID, or court records, and a copy of your 2006 Federal Income Tax Return listing the person as your dependent
