Meet Julius Schlosburg
I’m building robots and studying artificial intelligence at the robotics lab on campus. Julius Schlosburg

How did you decide what to study in college?

“I was going to study music when I came to Towson but then I took a robotics class in my freshman year and changed my major. I used to make robots in middle school. Now I do it all the time in the Cognitive Agency and Robotics Lab on campus.”

So you gave up music for robots?

“Well I still play the drums. I've got a set in my room and I play for one or two hours every day. Today, I played to John Mayer, The Guess Who, Incubus. I also play with a band in D.C. called Peyaqua.”

You get to conduct research. What's that like?

“It's so cool. I'm working on a project called POPSICLE. Basically we try to get computer artificial intelligence to act like human intelligence. We’re building a robot to make choices as it moves around a room. It’s a robotics and psychology experiment.”

Is it true that you don't get to talk to your professors much in college?

“Not true, at least not here. Professor Goran Trajkovski has been the best. I work with him every day in the lab. He’s taking a group of us to a

research expo in New York. He also got me into in a robotics competition. We're building a robot with students from Macedonia–collaborating online. And we're going to Paris for the competition.”

So what's college really like?

“It’s way cooler than I thought it would be. You've got so much independence. The hard part though is that you've got to schedule everything yourself. I can go hang out or eat with friends when I want but I've got to do my laundry too.”

What do you do with your friends for fun?

“I still hang out with all the friends I met freshman year. We watch 'Futurama' and 'Family Guy' pretty much every night. Every Wednesday we go to Beach Bums to get ice cream. We also go to Casa Mia’s in Towson sometimes. ”
