Student Academic Advisers
Sometimes you may have a quick question about course
requirements or want to check on your progress toward graduation.
You might like a peer’s perspective about your academic program
or need help understanding a university policy. Student Academic
Advisers are available to answer those questions and help you
prepare to meet with your faculty adviser. Just stop by the Academic
Advising Center in the Lecture Hall to talk with a Student Academic
Adviser—no appointment necessary.

Summer Trimester
Towson University offers a summer trimester program for students who
wish to move through their academic programs faster and with more
flexibility. The summer trimester is a convenient opportunity to wrap up prerequisites, speed up degree work or get into high-demand classes that fill quickly.
Many classes, labs and internships will be offered during the summer,
including a number of fully online courses. A range of university
services that are provided in the regular fall and spring terms—such
as housing, dining, advising, tutoring, health services and campus
recreation—will also be available during the trimester program.
Sessions include five-, seven- and 10-week courses. For more
information, visit www.towson.edu/tri.
Towson University Green Initiatives
Towson University is dedicated to fostering a sustainable,
environmentally responsible campus. We’ve already reduced our
carbon impact through a state-of-the art single-stream recycling
program, green construction projects and a new composting
initiative. Our commitment has even earned us national recognition
in the Princeton Review’s Guide to 286 Green Colleges. But climate
neutrality can’t be achieved through institutional practices alone.
We need your help—whether you volunteer in the student veggie
garden, rent an e-book or bring a bike to campus in lieu of a car,
the small steps you take to reduce your daily impact add up to an
enormous reduction in campus carbon emissions. Towson’s making
great strides toward climate neutrality. What will you do?
Campus Safety
The Towson University Police Department is a law enforcement
agency that provides a full range of both police and security services
to the university community. University Police are committed to
delivering the highest-quality policing and public safety services 24
hours a day, every day. The department is located in the General
Services Building, 20 W. Towsontown Blvd., across the street from the entrance to Burdick Hall. If you ever have an emergency, just dial 410-704-2133.
In accordance with the guidelines established by Towson University
and pursuant to federal law, all current and prospective students may
request and receive a copy of the Towson University Annual Campus
Security Report (Clery Report). Copies of the report may be obtained
from the Towson University Police by visiting the department in person,
by calling 410-704-2505, or online at the University Police website.
University Police Escort Service
The university maintains an escort service that operates during the
hours of darkness while school is in session. Walking and riding
escorts provide point-to-point service. Please call 410-704-7233. You may also contact the University Police via campus emergency blue light telephones to request an escort any time of the day.
Emergency Blue Light Phones
Towson University has installed blue light emergency phones around
the campus should the need arise to contact the police. Crime
prevention should be the concern of each individual and the entire community. To report a crime or other campus emergency, call 410-704-2133 (4-2133 from any campus phone) immediately.
Emergency Text Messaging
Students can register for TU’s free text-message notification system.
In case of emergency, text messages are sent to all registered textmessage
capable mobile phones, Blackberrys, wireless PDAs, pagers,
smart or satellite phones, and email addresses. The service also posts
these messages on the university’s website. The messages will pop up on the computer screen for anyone using Google, Yahoo! or AOL as his or her homepage. To register for text messaging visit the Text Alerts Web page.
Smoke-Free Campus Policy
Towson University is the first four-year university in Maryland to
be entirely smoke-free. All buildings and exterior grounds owned
or operated by Towson University are designated as smoke-free,
including athletic stadiums and practice fields, parking garages
and open spaces.
Towson’s smoke-free policy aims to reduce the health risks
associated with exposure to second-hand smoke and ensure that
all members of the campus community have access to clean air.
For those who wish to quit, the Dowell Health Center provides
free smoking assessments and smoking cessation and education
classes in partnership with the Baltimore County Department of
Health. Free nicotine replacement therapies are also available
through the Dowell Health Center.
For more information on the smoke-free policy, visit the Smoke Free web page.
