Step 14: Complete Immunization Requirements
              Deadline: Before classes begin
Contact: Dowell Health Center ● 410-704-2466

The Dowell Health Center’s priority is to keep our students and campus community healthy. All students taking classes on the main TU campus or any of our affiliated campus locations (Shady Grove, Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, HEAT and Hagerstown) are required to complete the Towson University Immunization and Tuberculosis screening requirements. This must be done online on the Health Center’s secure Web portal, MyDowellHealth.

Please follow the instructions below to get to MyDowellHealth:

  1. Go to the Dowell Health Center webpage.
  2. You will be asked to log in with your Towson NetID.
  3. Click to the Forms link on the left hand side to learn about the required online forms.
  4. As part of the verification process, you must download a printable immunization record and take it to your health care provider to complete and sign.
  5. U.S. citizens and permanent resident students must also complete the online tuberculosis screening questionnaire. Follow the instructions on that form. If you are required to obtain TB skin testing, take that form to your health care provider to complete.
  6. Keep a copy of both the immunization record and, if applicable, the tuberculosis testing form, and return the originals by mail, fax or email to:

    Dowell Health Center
    8000 York Road
    Towson, MD 21252-0001
    Fax: 410-704-3715
    Email: immunizations@towson.edu

  7. Use your copy of the form to enter the dates of all required and recommended vaccines and/or immune titers into the electronic immunization form. This data is stored securely in your electronic health record and will be used to determine compliance with the requirements.

PLEASE NOTE: Failure to meet the university’s mandatory immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements in a timely manner will prevent your access to class scheduling.

Required Immunizations

Students may obtain all required vaccines (MMR, Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, Meningitis vaccine), blood titers, and tuberculosis testing by appointment at the Dowell Health Center, 410-704-2466. Charges will be billed to your tuition account or your private insurance at your request. Representatives from the Dowell Health Center will be available at orientation check-in to accept your provider-signed immunization record and to answer any questions you may have.

Student Health Insurance Plan

Need health insurance? All students should have insurance to protect against high medical bills resulting from an unexpected serious illness or injury. Check out the Towson-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. This yearly insurance plan begins August 15, 2012, and provides coverage through August 14, 2013. To view the plan brochure and enroll online, visit the Dowell Health Center and click on Student Health Insurance.

Private Insurance Plan Billing at Dowell Health Center

The Dowell Health Center will bill most private insurance plans for services provided at the health center if you wish us to do so. Please bring your insurance information every time you visit the Dowell Health Center. We are contracted as “preferred (in-network) providers” with several of the major insurance companies that serve our students, which will mean less out-of-pocket cost to you. For more information regarding this service and to determine if we are preferred providers for your insurance plan, visit the Dowell Health Center and click on Using Your Private Insurance, or call us directly at 410-704-2466.

Students Living on Campus

As required by Maryland law, students moving into campus housing must be immunized against meningitis. As part of your Housing Contract Package, you received a Meningitis Fact Sheet and a Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement form. A duplicate form is enclosed in this package. You (or your parent/guardian if you are under 18 years of age) must complete the vaccine requirements or sign the waiver portion of the form and return the form to the appropriate address listed on the form. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN MENINGITIS FORMS TO DOWELL HEALTH CENTER. However, please enter your meningococcal vaccine or waiver information on the online immunization form on our Web portal (http://mydowellhealth.towson.edu). The vaccine is also available at the Dowell Health Center and can be billed to your tuition account or your private insurance at your request.
